Document Summary

Photosynthesis: taking water and co2 and energy from some source (light) to build c-c bonds; capture energy & uses energy to build c-c bonds (store energy in bonds) Visible light is part of an electromagnetic spectrum. Spectrum has many elements that are not visible, only small part is visible light . In our visual systems, we have particular pigments that absorb energy of light within that spectrum and so we can see the spectrum from violet to red because we have photo pigments that absorb that light. Biological molecules are responses in very little physical ranges. Only have certain physical properties so it repeats over and over again. Pigments plants use are based on biological molecules have very limited capacities (absorbs same light and reflects green) Violet = shortest wavelength; higher energy; higher frequency. Red = longest wavelength; lower energy; lower frequency. Light viewed as a particle and a wave. Energy of photon is inversely related to its wavelength.
