Oklahoma was reserved as indian territory for the five civilized tribes (cherokee, chickasaw, choctaw, creek, and seminole). The indians lived on the eastern half of. Ok, and no man"s land was the far side western half of the terr. Boomers tried to settle the land early and were kicked out by the fed gov. Many people poured into the land like cowboy bernard. The indian land was being surrounded by amer settlers. Congress passed the curtis act, which ended the indians communal land ownership, dissolved the indian terr; letting anyone settle the land. Oklahomans celebrated the fact that the terr originated from indians (oklahoma- land of the red man ). 1: indian pop destroyed by foreign invasion, some tribes assimilated, some fought, amer thought indian tribes own nations .
