Managers think in the long run, where their products have only variable costs. However, in the short run, their products have both variable costs and fixed costs. Managers want revenues to exceed costs in the long run, so they need to figure out how to deal with costs in the short run. Cost pool: a grouping of individual indirect cost items; can be a wide or narrow grouping.
