Associated with the emotion of fear and is responsible for orchestrating our reactions to evasive stimuli. Personality factor that matches this is fearfulness and avoidance. Person will confront, avoid or freeze when in the stimuli situation. Makes the person more sensitive to the reward. Related personality factors are optimism, impulsiveness and anticipatory pleasure. Conflicts can be between good things and between bad things. Can also be activated with conflicts between the other 2 systems above. Until the conflict is resolved, the person feels anxiety, worry, rumination, risk assessment, vigilance for bad things or a sense of loss/danger. We cannot tell if there is a problem with grey"s theory or a problem with the scales that are designed to measure the personality traits exhibited by these brain systems.
