Document Summary

Usually in stage 3 or 4 of sleep cycle. Sleepwalkers are usually unresponsive to others and have blank stares. However, they can navigate themselves in the environment (e. g. go grab food or go to the bathroom) Usually they have no memory of sleep walking. Causes: may be inherited, stress, alcohol, illness can cause it. Awaking sleepwalkers is not dangerous they may be confused for a few minutes. Occur more often in rem and in hours before waking up. Mental activity occurs throughout the entire sleep cycle. Dream most when brain is most active, i. e. we dream most in rem (80% of the time versus non-rem which is 15-50% of the time) Brain activity is also higher during final hours of sleep than during earlier hours. Dreams are not as strange as thought out to be: most take place in familiar settings with people we already know, some dreams are strange, but most aren"t.
