Physiology- study of how cells, tissue, organs, and organism"s function, we study how each organ system works to provide survival needs to organism and maintain homeostasis of each of the essential variables. Darwin- origin of the species (1858), discovered natural selection. Natural selection- a mechanism in which evolution can occur, it argues that some species have advantages over others, certain characteristics enables certain functions from occurring, the differences lead to competition and advantages. *natural selection is a process through which evolution can occur. * survival of the fittest is natural selection not evolution. Evolution- the changes to the characteristics of a population over time. * evolution and natural selection is not the same thing. Organizations of living things: principles of matter/energy. Matter- occupies space, we are matter: atoms -> molecules. Atoms- smallest part of the element that has the properties of it.
