Psychology definition: the study of the mind, behavior, and experience. The goal of this course is to understand that psychology is a perspective (a way of asking questions and understanding a phenomena using a variety of explanations, constructs, and methods. There are 5 different perspectives: biological- a way of looking at psychological phenomena by studying how physiology contributes to behavior and experience. We want to think about and realize how these can/can not contribute to the 5 different perspectives of psychology: ~ learning- how do new experiences strengthen or weaken the physical connection between neurons in order to retain new memory or skill. ~ love- how does the activity of neurons and the hypothalamus help control our loving interactions with babies, interesting things, etc. ~ happiness- how does electrical stimulation in certain areas of the brain help someone feel happier (temporal cortex, insula)
