Macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats/oils, and proteins, provide energy. Carbohydrates: primary source of fuel for our bodies, especially during exercise and for the brain, composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, provide 4 kcal per gram, vegetables, wheat, and legumes. Proteins: support tissue growth, repair, and maintenance, composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, supply 4 kcal of energy per gram, building new cells and tissues, maintaining bones, repairing damage, meats, dairy, seeds, nuts, and legumes.
