Racism = racial prejudice + systemic, institutional or cultural power. The ability to control or coerce another"s behavior and/or access to social, political, and economic resources. Contact between racial/ethnic groups is important to reducing racial bias. Functionalist racial/ ethnic relations must contribute to the function and stability of society. Power/ economic differences fuel conflict between racial/ethnic groups. Racism is ingrained in power systems in the united states. Does prejudice and racism exist today: racial attitudes and behaviors have changed colorblind ideology, but, prejudice and racism still exist in more subtle forms.
