Solutions a society can do to reduce climate change. Solutions you can do to reduce climate change. Prepare ourselves for the new climate: design new structures (social and physical) accordingly. Capacity of storm drains: plan for less predictable precipitation, manage ecosystems for resilience, minimize other stressors. Ghg emissions = population*per capita consumption*energy intensity of consumption*ghg intensity of energy production. So four knobs- population, consumption, efficiency, energy mix (plus storage) Educate women, give them access to economic opportunity, heath care and birth control. Decrease greenhouse gas emissions (from fossil fuels, livestock, deforestation) Phase out halocarbons (more important for ozone depletion, but cfcs, etc are greenhouse gases) Enough nations signed protocol for it to come into effect feb 2005. Illustrated the difficulties of ratifying a treaty on climate change in the usa, & of compelling nations to act. Depends on voluntary national commitments - differ by country.
