EAPS 11100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Mafic, Magnesium, Sulfur
1. Why care about rocks and minerals?
a. Rocks and minerals contain clues about the Earth’s past, allowing us to
assemble a historical record of our planet from events that occurred
long before humans.
b. They contain evidence and info about how the Earth works and are
recorded of past processes.
c. Important resource in everyday life, components in our cell phones,
roads we drive in, fossil fuels we burn, solar panels we use to generate
renewable energy.
2. Minerals in Different Parts of the Earth
a. Continental Crust - FELSIC MINERALS
