We always need corporate jobs in the retail industry. Retailing: a set of business activities that adds value to the products and services sold directly to consumers for their personal or family use. Retailer: a business that sells products and/or services directly to consumers for personal or family use. Education is considered a retailer (ex: purdue) because they sell education to students. Supply chain: a set of firms that make and deliver a given set of goods and services to the ultimate consumer. Retailers are the final business within a supply chain which links manufacturers to customers. Wholesaler: sells large quantities of products to other businesses as well as straight to a customer. Vertical integration: firm performs more than one set of activities in the channel. Backward integration: retailer performs some manufacturing and/or wholesale activities. Ex: ralph lauren operates its own stores (new york jones, liz claiborne) Retail strategy: the way a customer values their retail experience.
