Shift in competitive abilities depending on environment. Each species have slightly different feeding habit foraged in different zones in spruce trees. Reduce interspecific competition because each bird eat different part of the tree. Group of species that exploit same resource in slightly different ways. Venn diagram shows that when two species coexist, they tend to have different appearance/beak size than when they are separated. Sumibalanus cannot live at high areas unable to resist dissociation in low tide. Prokaryote took up residence in other ones (1. 5 billion years ago) => mitochondria/chloroplasts.
