Trait: genotype/phenotype of an individual for a given character (red hair/ dwarf plants) Eventually will allow us to map genes, igure out where they are located on chromosomes. True-breeding: individuals always produce ofspring that resemble themselves when self-fertilized. Mendel crossed pea plants that were true-breeding for round seeds with pea plants that were true-breeding for wrinkled seeds. F1: 1st ofspring generation (irst ilial), f2: cross between two f1 individuals. Cross f1 individuals to create 2nd generation ofspring. Mendel counted lots of seeds and found: 3/4 round 1/4 wrinkled.
