Resistance to sign language exists throughout the world. In the u. s. , there is a database with a compiled list of all parents who have deaf children. If this child as a result of hearing screening is found to have hearing loss, they are added to the list. It is held at the nih (national institute of health) and is highly confidential. It would be nice if the deaf community could reach out to these hearing parents. It"s a sticky issue because confidentiality is important, but so is the deaf community.
