Most deaf children don"t learn any sign language before they start school. From the late 1800s to late 1900s: most deaf kids attended a signing school . All students are deaf, and they communicate primarily in sign language. Many signing schools from the late 1800s to mid-1900s banned sign language in the classroom. Oralism method compared to an oral program are different. Signing school classrooms banned sl, but in downtime like meals and after school programs, it wasn"t banned. Combo of lip reading and using english grammar in signs. Hard for kids to build a good language foundation. Asl is a natural language so kids are better able to grasp a language pattern.
