Document Summary

Wolfgang k hler: chimps faced with the problem of getting food in a high place and only giving them boxes to stack. Learning involves mental processes that cannot be directly observed (primates) 1st group was always reinforced when it reached the goal. 2nd group was never reinforced when it reached the goal. 3rd group wasn"t reinforced for the first 10 days, but on the 11th day and onward they were reinforced. Group 1 made fewer errors than group 2, group 3 showed an abrupt drop in errors after receiving their first reinforcement. There is a difference between competence and performance. Performance is influenced by the presence or absence of incentives (reinforcers) Behavior is often purposive, not random (animals act in goal-directed ways) Children observed an adult interacting with various toys and then were invited to play. Children who observed the aggressive adult displayed much more aggression. Social learning theory: learning occurs through observation of models, and learning occurs without reinforcement.
