Romans then broke up the kingdom and made judea a roman province. Two uprisings occurred that resulted in the destruction of the temple and the creation of jerusalem as a roman city. The first christians were jews who believed that jesus was the messiah. Roman governor who arrested and crucified jesus. Originally persecuted christians but eventually became the first christian missionary. Wanted to break away from strict ritual worship and focus instead on faith and love. Baptism and the eucharist were already included. After paul"s death, more structured churches began to appear. Considered the jewish writings holy, but they only foretold of the messiah. The christians needed writings to be sure they were following god"s will, so they began collecting writings of the apostles, such as paul. Told of jesus"s actual actions and words.
