Under murata shuko (1423-1502), simple tea drinking developed into a formal ceremony. Thick, green tea called matcha was served. An appreciation of objects weathered by time. Mizusashi = a lidded container for fresh cold water used by the host in the tea room during ceremonies. The water is used to replenish the water in the kama. Originally used to hold medicines in china. Imported to japan in the medieval period. Some old ones are so famous that they have names . Decorated with matte black and brown iron glazes. Ceremonies originally held in residence, but then later removed to special separate tea houses next to the residence. Tea house at katsura imperial villa, kyoto. Thatch roof with moss growing on it. Pillars are tree trunks with bark still on them. One of the 12 original structures at ginkakuji - fig 266. Pond originally had lotus flowers to suggest the western paradise.
