BIOSC 0370 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Cash Flow, Economic Rent, Maximum Sustainable Yield
Document Summary
At friday we were doing key factor analysis which is looking at what controls populaion size and what drives populaion change. Examine if winter disappearance is a density dependent factor. We look at graphs to igure out that it is density independent. But since it has such a small mortality rate is lower than winter disappearance because it is not a key factor. Winter disappearance is about moths and they are in their egg stage where the temperature variaion is what causes the disappearance. Therefore the populaion is open because there are external inluences. When we see a posiive slope in mortality then it is negaive density dependence. This is because increasing k has an increasingly negaive efect on the populaion. Now we will apply this populaion stuf to things people care about. The goal is to exploit populaions to maximum advantage. You want the biggest harvest which is sustainable. The two sources of new individuals is births and immigraion.
