Document Summary

While both artists focus on the idea of social performance and acting in their displays, they both portray the possible presence of agency in vastly different ways. Agency is defined as the ability to engage with the audience and subject, and to act to control a situation. Fusco, on the other hand, uses almost nothing in the way of agency or power for the main characters of her production. Bornstein"s piece, it is obvious to see that the actors are who are in charge and in control of the performance. They dictate the conversation and the way the content is portrayed. In fusco"s piece, it is the opposite; the audience is in control of the production. The actors are there to observe the direction that the audience takes them and. 2 to follow in their direction (i. e. taking photos, performing, speaking). They are studying us more than we are studying them (fusco, 25:51-25:56).
