Poverty: below the expected subsistence level at this time. Maintenance work: work to maintain level above subsistence. Enhancing work: both gotta do and wanna do work. To improve and maintain quality of living. In 1960 only 30% of all married women were in the labor force. Changing faces of work: more expected than just money. Early work purely physical to directly survive. Primary means of identifying self in society. Unemployment: more effects than just loss of income. How worth while we see our self. Family: assumes status of person with highest job.
