People may change their behavior when they know they"re being observed. Observers can be biased or make errors. Time consuming and expensive (raters need extensive training) Only tell us about the particular situation used for the observation. Subjective internal experiences (feelings) often cannot be observed. Client answers questions about themselves on a measure, which are scored and interpreted later. Can get info about a broad range of topics (including internal experiences) in a short time. Client may be more willing to give undesirable/embarrassing info.
