Adaptive behaviors are beneficial in a specific context, but may be maladaptive (not useful or counterproductive) in another. Extreme fear and the bodily changes it produces are warranted around starving wolves, but not in the hub. Drinking during state patty"s day may be socially adaptive for the interpersonal connection, but drinking while competing in the olympics is trouble.
