Look at observable behavior (what can be seen) Mental processes (what"s going on in the person"s mind) Metacognitive: awareness and understanding of one"s own thought processes. Blank slate: proven untrue; majority of personality is genetic and inborn, also affected by environment. Environment can turn a gene on or off (gene expression in personality and being) Analyzed sensations, images and feelings into basic elements. Mind tends to look at the big picture. Analyzed the function or purpose of behavior. Biological: how the body influences behavior, thoughts, feelings. Evolutionary psychology (functionalism): how our adaptive evolution affects us today. Psychodynamic (modern viewpoint): how unconscious conflicts, inner forces affect behavior, thoughts, feelings. How you are raised and relationships with parents has an impact on you later in your life and with future relationships. Unconscious/subconscious: things in your mind that you"re not aware of.
