Document Summary

Why so many people were able to hear all the new music. Radio stations had to pay an umbrella organization, who would pay the artists (less and less overtime) to play music they wanted to play. Also why they went the safe" way and only aired white covers of black music. Bmi another org. came around and signed a lot of black musicians for the sake of competition. This forced other stations to air that music too. This made it affordable to air pre-recorded music. It was a new name for black music. And black musicians were pissed at this because they weren"t getting the profit for it even though it was being aired more. It was all layers of appropriation and a marketing concept. Varied in his musical taste no formal music training. He started out as a back-up singer for a country band. He was popular mostly because of his covers of black music.
