The romanticism movement was called the transcendentalist movement in elite new england circles. It criticized the state of culture and society. Core belief inherent goodness of people and nature society and institutions corrupted the purity of its individuals (very rousseau-esc) Downplayed theology and intellectual argumentation in favor of personal, heartfelt experiences.
