Document Summary

What happens in the large intestine: many diseases disrupt the osmotic function, example, cholera, cholera bacteria produce a toxin, causes uncontrollable movement of ions into the lumen, large intestine, diarrhea. Ions pull water osmotically into the lumen: eventually out of body. Rectum and anal canal: rectum holds feces until defecation, rectal valves allows for passage of gas, retains feces at same time, anal canal controlled by 2 sphincter. Involuntary: external, voluntary, mucosa layer produces extra mucous during defecation. Review: gastrin inhibitory peptide inhibits the release of gastrin, result, hcl, pepsinogen, mucus. If you are unable to secrete hcl into your stomach, then protein digestion will decrease: hcl turns pepsinogen into pepsin, pepsin attacks amino acids, pancreatic juices are secreted into the small intestine, cck stimulates release of pancreatic juice. Renal system: from pancreas into the pancreatic duct. Renal physiology: functions, wastes, excrete, remove, elimination, discharge, nitrogen wastes, regulation of, blood volume, solute concentration, water balance, salt balance.
