Document Summary

When that baaaby due: this wonderful decision, mamma don"t preach, daddy dilemma, social class and the daily lives of children. Part one: the big picture: children and childbirth in us culture. How raised: big family / happy family. If not happy as a child, a chance to restart. Identity: our conception of ourselves, or our self image or mental model of ourselves. Pronatalism: a us cultural value that most adults should want and have children and that children should be encouraged. Women have had all of the experience with children growing up. Girls play with dolls, feed them, change diapers, etc. Girls babysit when they are 13 -14 years old, so they already have experience taking care of kids. Childhood socialization, especially for girls, reinforces the pronatalist norm of our culture. Social norm: shared cultural understandings and expectations for behavior. Group unity (people who follow the norms and people who violate the norm)
