Document Summary

Glomerular capsule: leading into this is vasculature. Exiting capsule is the beginning the proximal convoluted tubule. Macula densa: part of regulating blood volumes and blood pressure. Blood vessel coming into capsule is called afferent arteriole. Blood vessel leaving capsule is called the efferent arteriole. When the volume of the blood in the afferent arteriole is greater than the volume of the blood in the efferent arteriole, then that means that more blood goes in than out! Capillaries throughout much of the body are perforated. Capillaries are made of simple squamous epithelium. Blood coming into capsule is forced out throughout perforations (greater pressure) 20 % of blood plasma goes through here and takes with it all molecules small enough pass through the holes. Ex: small proteins, sugars, electrolytes, enzymes, water, vitamins, minerals. Everything will leave the proximal convoluted tubules. Capillaries are covered with podacytes (cells with a lot of cytoplasmic extensions that wrap around capillaries for reinforcement)
