Demographic risk factors for being a victim of homicide include: Being an indigenous australian (almost 4 times more likely to be victims of homicide) Being a male aged 20 24 years (for females highest victimisation is between 35 and 39 years) Being vulnerable (e. g. aged under 5 years or over 80 years) Being single if male; or partnered if a female. Situational risk factors residential settings are the most common site of violent crime. Majority of people are victimised by a person known to them. Overall, in only 13% of homicides people are victimised by people unknown to them. Males far more likely than females to kill a stranger. Some days and times are riskier" than others. Differences between seemingly similar societies in terms of cultural aspects of violence. Homicide is not a random event likely to result from convergence of high risk socio- demographic, temporal and location risk factors.
