Document Summary

Knowledge we cannot consciously access: exceedingly important to us b/c it"s got a direct effect on behavior, there are 3 general types of implicit memory, procedural memory: knowledge of how to do things. Allows us to perform complex tasks, even though we may not be able to explain to others how we do them: classical conditioning effects: associate neutral stimulus w/ another stimulus to create a naturally occurring response. Demonstrated when conditioned stimulus begins to create same response as unconditioned stimulus did before learning: priming: changes in behavior as a result of experiences that have happened frequently/recently. Refers both to activation of knowledge & to influence of activation on behavior. Ex: we can prime concept of (cid:498)kindness(cid:499) by presenting people w/ words related to kindness: structure of long-term memory: categories, prototypes, & schemas: Memories stored in ltm are not isolated: they"re linked together into categories, categories: networks of associated memories that have features in common w/ each other.
