Wars began when france declared war against austria. Will cross the outs to go into the italian peninsula. Ides from the french revolution will shape the republic. Puppet state: cant get out of line with what the french want. Will publish three newspapers on the northern italian campaign: circulated around the soldiers and france, self-promotion. Says lets wait and invade egypt now: will break the alliance with the ottoman empire. Britian is starting to have business in egypt. Says yes but he has to fund it. Victory on land: battle of the pyramids (july 1798) Defeat at sea: battle of the nile (august 1798) French has control on land but is blocked from using waterway. Goes into syria on the way to india. The french lose and is pushed back into egypt. Will have 4500 of political prisoners rounded up and killed. The two times that he is losing he abandons his troops.
