Mid and late 19th had the changes in medicine. Advance in medicine, hygiene, and the economy came together to increase the lifespan. The global life span was 28 years in the early 18th century. By the year 2000 the lifespan goes up to 66 years. By the 1850s even the scientists don"t know about the diseases. Thought that it was due to bad air: miasma. Start to realize that some of the micro-organisms are connected to germs. Cholera outbreak in london: didn"t know the cause of it. Will trace it back to a water supply contaminated by sewage. Breakthrough in public health and the study of disease. One of the founders of medical microbiology. Will find that there are many more microorganisms than they thought. Will give evidence for the germ theory: bacteria that causes disease, will be able to isolate bacteria and work on remedies. Will learn that you can heat a liquid and kill bacteria.
