Communication- how we socially interact with the world: messages vary, it"s a process, allows sharing of ideas. Base level= intrapersonal communication- communication within yourself: constant feedback. Second level= interpersonal communication- communication, verbally or nonverbally, to another person: continual when others are around, doesn"t have to be face to face. Third level= group communication- 1 person communicates with an audience of 2 or more people: level of unequal communication, more public. Fourth level= mass communication- society wide communication process: single sender to large audience. Sender often in a different place than receiver: audience members unknown, limited feedback because mostly one way communication. Mass media- technology tools used to transmit messages of mass communication. Players described by smcr/transmission model: limitation is its not always this cut and dry, portrays mass communication as a one way flow, players- Sender- produces messages we receive through mass media. Can be small like bloggers or six until me.
