Middle ear infection, putting in ear plugs (reducing the amount of sound going to the cochlea) Damage to cochlea or central auditory nervous system. Usually the result of damage in the cochlea. High frequencies usually go before the lows. Results in no loss of loudness, but a loss of speech understanding. I can hear what they are saying but it sounds like they are mumbling . Air conduction and bone conduction threshold will be elevated and equal.
