3 questions will come from our two assigned readings. 20 25% of questions come from the challenging folders. The nal exam will be 70 minutes, 50 questions. Earth in the goldilocks zone of a star called the sun. Water (matter; came from comets, xed amount of water on earth) Water moves around earth via water cycle (solid, liquid, gas) Life (as we know it) is carbon based. Carbon moves around the earth in the carbon cycle. Water and carbon (matter) are linked through the life cycle, which is driven by sunlight (energy). O2 began to appear in the atmosphere about 2 billion years ago. If o2 is absent (anaerobic) then respiration does not occur. This is how coal forms (i. e. dead plant material isn"t decomposed via respiration). Co2 is part of photosynthesis/respiration and impacts the earth"s surface temperature because it"s a greenhouse gas. 4 key things control earth"s climate (ice age vs. interglacial; i. e. temperature)
