Anthro 3504: each articulates with thoracic vertebra. 1 7 = true ribs (connect to sternum) 8 12 = false ribs: structures, head, neck, tubercle, angle, costal groove, body, sternum, 3 portions, manubrium, body, xiphoid, hyaline cartilage connects ribs to sternum. Structures: sternal end, acromial end: sternoclavicular joint, acromioclavicular joint, function, resists movement so do not overextend shoulder, can retract (pull back) and protract (pull forward, can elevate and depress, scapula, sits on dorsum of ribcage, anterior structures. Subscapular fossa: on body on scapula, coracoid process, finger-like protrusion, posterior structures, medial border (closest to spine, lateral border (closest to armpit) Spine = divides fossa on blade: supraspinous fossa, infraspinous fossa. Intertubercular sulcus: between the two tubercles, anatomical neck, between head and two tubercles.
