Psychosexual drive, instinct, urges, motivation, desires, etc. (subconscious: libido- psychosexual, infantile, drive, at the basis of everything, born with this drive. Refer to as the drive-structure model : all three derive from libido, without psychosexual drive in the picture, you. Have no tripartite model of the mind: the 3 structures are fueled by libido; w/o. Difference b/w people is the strength of the drive with which one was born. Freud"s theory is fundamentally a biological theory b/c he conceptualized it in terms of heredity: strength of libido that you are born with = defining factor of who you become over the course of entire life. (2) drive (libido) fuels entire psychic system. Freud says this is confusing libidinous urge with ego functions. That behavior thought of as love cannot be attributed to love, but to libido and psychosexual drive/seeking pleasure. (4a) culture does not matter; reality does not matter: epi-phenomenal = not a phenomenon; has no causal impact.
