PSYCH-AD 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Binge Drinking, Fetus, Habituation
Document Summary
Kinesthesia: the system for sensing the position and movement of individual body parts. Vestibular sense: the sense of body movement and position, including the sense of balance. The semicircular canals (3d pretzel) and the vestibular sacs (connect canals and cochlea) contain fluid that moves when your head moves or tilts. The movement stimulates hair like receptors and send messages to cerebellum which enable you to sense your body position and maintain your balance. Sensory interaction: the principle that one sense may influence another, as when the smell of food influences its taste. Embodied cognition: in psychological science, the influence of bodily sensations, gestures, and other states on cognitive preferences and judgments. Illustrate how we process our bodily sensations connect with brain circuits responsible for cognition. Synesthesia: one type of sensation produces another (a word may have a color associated w/ it) Mvmt of fluid inner ear bc of body.
