Regulation: osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus regulate the fluid (1) renal artery (2) afferent arterioles (3) glomerular capillaries (4) efferent arterioles (5) peritubular capillaries (6) vasa recta, regulation of water balance, filtrate: h2o, small molecules, ions. Involuntary urination seen in infants, elderly, neuro patients: hypothalamus & pituitary regulation. Adh release: acting at the renal distal and collecting tubules. Adh suppression: acting at the renal distal and collecting tubules. Urinary excretion of water: adrenal cortical regulation. Decreased renal perfusion/decreased sodium: aldosterone is secreted. Release of renin: kidneys respond with increased renin in plasma. Angiotensin ii: when antigiotensinogen is acted on by renin. Infection: heavy purulence and presence of g- and g+ organisms: blood tests, serum urea and serum creatinine, failure to excrete nitrogen wastes, due to gfr, metabolic acidosis. Indicates gfr: check abgs, failure of tubules to control acid-base balance, kidneys excrete or reabsorb hco3- and h, anemia. Indicates erythropoietin secretion or bone marrow depression.
