Document Summary

Memory storage takes different forms, depending on the type of memory: Working memory is the memory that you need at that moment. It is limited in volume: it can only hold 7-8 pieces of information at a time. It can hold phone and credit card numbers. It is very limited in duration: an image is only present in your visual working memory while the electrical current is flowing through the loop between your prefrontal cortex and occipital-parietal, visual spatial sketchpad. The auditory information is only present in your auditory working memory while the electrical current is flowing through the phonological loop between your pfc and auditory cortex (wernicke"s area). If you make connections and understand the meaning of the working memory, the working memory becomes short term memory. Short term memory increases electrical activity in the circuit throughout the brain, increasing the likelihood that this particular circuit could be stimulated again.
