Popular sovereignty was a phrase that meant people of each territory/ region to decide whether the territory/region would follow slavery. Popular sovereignty can be seen from the kansas-nebraska. Douglas wanted to find the status of slavery through the use of popular sovereignty: john brown. John brown caused an event that enraged the south that it rushed them into disunion. He hated slavery and with his actions in kansas made a crisis. By receiving money from eastern abolitionists brown seized a mountain fortress in virginia that had to do with a slave insurrection with the south. 16, 1859, he led an attack with a group of people to harper"s ferry, virginia. He was met with opposition of citizens and the militia. The attack was nullified and brown was captured and killed: republican party. The republican party was political faction that wanted to get the appeal of every group of the north.
