At heart was a plan to reinstitute missouri compromise line for western lands. Slavery would be allowed in the south and wouldn"t be in the north. Republicans felt that it would go against their position so they couldn"t agree with the idea. Even when lincoln came into inauguration nothing happened because he said some basic principles. He said that the union was older than the constitution and that no state could leave the union. He said that acts of force or violence against the union were insurrection. The government would have the right to take back the property from the seceded states: fort sumter. Fort sumter was located on an island in the harbor of charleston south carolina. The southern states tried to take the federal property fort.
