BIOL-UA 12 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Endocrine System, Protein Kinase A, Autocrine Signalling
Document Summary
Endocrine system is responsible for coordination and control through signaling of hormones involves hormones responses may be short lived or long lived hormones are transported by blood always involuntary slow tend to affect more than one target organs. Secreting cell = cell that sends the signal. Signal = molecule that eventually binds to cell with matching receptor. Target cell = cells with the corresponding receptor that allow them to receive receptor carry out the response. The way signals are transmitted between animal cells are based on two things: (2) route taken by the signal in reaching its target. Endocrine signaling = releases molecule into blood stream. Neuroendocrine signaling = (form of endocrine signaling) = specialized neurosecretory cells secrete molecules neurohormones that travel to target cells via the bloodstream. Paracrine signal = secreting cell sends molecule out into the neighborhood and will eventually bind to cell with matching receptor.
