Abscisic acid (aba): promote dormancy of embryo in seeds. *plants will accept the hormone if you simply spray it on the plant. Synthesis is the creation of the hormone inside of the cell. *asymmetric cell division plays a key role in development as they produce daughters of different sizes, shapes and developmental fates. *stomata helps with gas exchange and absorbance of water. *guard cells protect the stomata as at night, guard cells absorb ions which creates a gradient for water to come in, becoming turgid. This blocks the stomata from doing gas exchange as no photosynthesis at night. * with the division of a specialized cell, they separate asymmetrically , and the side with less mass becomes the mother cell. The asymmetric division decides the fate of the cell. *arabidopsis speechless mutant is defective in first asymmetric cell division in guard cell formation. The gene causes it to have no stomata.
