PSY 111 Lecture Notes - Lecture 28: Longitudinal Study, Peer Pressure, Hard Wired
Document Summary
The social value of academics changes from 5th to 8th grade. Elementary- it"s cool to raise your hand and be the teacher"s pet. Perhaps adolescents are hard wired for peer influence. Teens experience greater activity in neural reward regions when viewing. Ig photos with many likes vs those with few likes. Ex: compare you at 20 years old to current 80 y/o. Con: more variables to take into consideration. Cannot conclude results are solely based on age, because did not think of other variables. Comparing brains is not taken into account, more variance between tasks, older people may not know how to use tech. Ex: compare you at 20 y/o and then you again at 80 y/o. Con; time. much slower to collect data. Pro: more accurate (we can hold more things in the world constant) Cognitive abilities decline (mental processing, memory, intelligence, etc) More serious: the brain is affected (frontal lobes shrink proportionally more than other brain regions)
