Trephination: drilling holes in brain to relieve welling. Ventricles: set of four interconnected cavities in the brain, where cerebrospinal fluid is produced. Phrenology: franz gall, different bumps on the skull reveal our mental abilities and character traits. Equipotentiality: one part of the brain is not more important than the other. Karl lashley, imparment was related to amount of tissue lost, thus brain tissue had ewual potential for the mediation of brain functions. Cell theory: all life arises from cells, which can only arise from pre-existing cells. This theory was excepted for all tissue except nervous system. Neuron doctrine: concept that the neurvous system is made up of discrete individual cels. Law of dynamic polarization; information always from form presynaptic to post. Aristotle: theorized that the heart was the seat of cognitive function and the brain functioned more like a radiator. Hippocrates: correct assumptions about brain illness and deemed the brain the seat of intelligence and sensation.
