Personality: an individual"s characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Thematic apperception test (tat: rorschach test, goal: acquire insight into cognition and personality. Psyc1101: dreams, mate selection, personality disorders, job screening, problems, no universal scoring guidelines or standardization. The mind is mostly below the surface of conscious awareness: ego. Id our rational self based in biological drives: superego society"s rules and constraints. Learned expectation of success, belief in one"s capabilities: self-esteem, self-worth, reciprocal determinism. How personality, thoughts, social environment all reinforce/cause each other. He may have started with an easy temperament. He may attract other happy people, which reinforces his smiles. Those by which a person may be recognized: st. teresa, michael jordan. Factor analysis: identifying factors that tend to cluster together. Personality traits are a function of two basic dimensions. Introverted/extroverted: extraversion, orientation outside world, sociable. Impulsive: adventurous, dominant, assertive, carefree, dominant, extraversion & cortical arousal, unstable, anxious, depressed.
