POLS 4701 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Differentiated Instruction
Document Summary
We don"t engage in inquiry to try to understand its uniqueness. The doubt that we experience when encountering an unsettled (or indeterminate ) Situation is not simply a state of mind that is purely our own. It is the situation and our relationship to it (or our place within it) that is doubtful. We have not entered into an unstable state of mind. We have become part of a situation that"s uncertain, ambiguous, and strange. It creates a motivation in us to understand it, define it, and resolve it. We are not trying to put our minds at ease but to articulate a way of making sense of the situation so there will be actual consequences for that situation. The situation and the conditions that constitute it are changed as a result of inquiry and action. Restoration of integration = resolving the problem by changing the situation, restoring a balance, harmony, equilibrium. Situation is not a single object or event.
